Washington D.C. Event to Encourage Investment in STEM Education
09/12/13
(San Diego, CA) – Leesa Hubbard, a Sally Ride Science Teacher-in-Residence, will be a keynote speaker at the 13th Annual STEM Education Conference hosted by the Triangle Coalition for STEM Education in Washington D.C., September 11-13.
A teacher in Wilson County, Tennessee, Ms. Hubbard provides an educator’s perspective on the varied STEM education products, programs, and services designed by Sally Ride Science. Additionally, she is a faculty member in the Sally Ride Science Academy, where the Company offers professional development to educators seeking to increase student interest in STEM topics and careers.
In the 2002-2003 school year, Ms. Hubbard was awarded an Einstein Fellowship through the Triangle Coalition, and worked at NASA Headquarters with the Educator Astronaut Program. The Einstein Fellowship program provides a unique professional development opportunity for educators in which Fellows spend eleven months working in a federal agency or in a U.S. Congressional office, bringing their extensive knowledge and classroom experience to education programs and policy efforts. A new group of Einstein Fellows will be recognized at this year’s event.
“In 2002, I was the first teacher from Tennessee chosen to be an Einstein Fellow,” said Ms. Hubbard. “Now, I am thrilled to return to Triangle Coalition as a keynote speaker, representing Sally Ride Science, and helping the Coalition in its ongoing commitment to STEM education.”
“As one of our teachers-in-residence, Leesa plays an invaluable role at Sally Ride Science,” said CEO Sheryle Bolton. “Voices like hers help inform our entire organization with a STEM teacher’s perspective, and help us better equip educators to ignite and maintain student passion for STEM.”
Triangle Coalition’s Annual STEM Education Conference seeks to inform program directors, administrators, policy makers, educators, and other stakeholders of advances in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education in the U.S., and to encourage further investment in pedagogy, institutions, and policies that support STEM education.
Guests of honor at this year’s event will include Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA) and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), recipients of the 2013 STEM Education Champion Award. For more information on the event, visit http://www.trianglecoalition.org/conference.
