San Diego, CA, January 27, 2014—Sally Ride Science CEO Sheryle Bolton, will be one of 100 Harvard Business School (HBS) women selected by the school’s alumni to be honored as it celebrates “50 years of Women at HBS” at the W50 Gala event, held this evening at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco, CA.
This select group of 100 distinguished honorees was nominated and chosen from more than 1,200 alumnae based in Northern California who have been leaders in business as well as in not-for-profit and community institutions. Honorees were chosen after all local HBS Alumni living in Northern California were asked to submit their W50 nominations.
Ms. Bolton has been a pioneer and executive leader in technology, healthcare and education. After serving in Africa in the Peace Corps, receiving an MA in Linguistics at the University of Georgia and an MBA at HBS, she held executive positions at Home Box Office and Rockefeller & Co., and was an investment banker at Merrill Lynch in New York. She then became President and COO of Physicians’ Online, the first company delivering online clinical data to physicians.
From 1996 to 2002, she was Chairman and CEO of Bay Area-based Scientific Learning, Corporation, a company founded to bring neuroscience research on how the brain learns to language and reading. Ms. Bolton led the company from pre-product launch to a highly successful IPO and continued growth as a public company, enabling millions to benefit from the break-through software. Ms. Bolton has also been a Director on numerous public and private corporation and mutual fund Boards. Currently, Ms. Bolton is President and CEO of Sally Ride Science, Inc., founded by America’s first woman in space, to ignite student and teacher interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) topics and careers.
An Oakland, CA, resident, Ms. Bolton has led several Harvard Business School Community Partners projects in the Bay Area for clients, including the Public Library of Science and Headlands Institute. She has also served on the Boards of the East Bay YMCA, Headlands Institute, and as Board Chair of Watermark, the premier organization for executive women in Silicon Valley. “I am extremely honored to be recognized by my fellow alumni,” said Ms. Bolton. “I am also proud of helping to create tomorrow’s W50 through the work we’re doing at Sally Ride Science.”
