Northrop Grumman has announced it is naming a Cygnus cargo spacecraft in honor of America’s first woman in space. Cygnus NG-18, known as the S.S. Sally Ride, will carry supplies to the International Space Station. The company names each uncrewed Cygnus craft after a person who has made a great contribution to human spaceflight. Earlier Cygnus modules were named after trailblazers such as astronaut John Glenn, NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson and Ellison Onizuka, first Asian-American person in space.
